  42. B) Before installing WinTrumpet:
  43.  
  44. Please read wtdoc.doc before installing.  The packet driver
  45. version requires "winpkt.com".  A patched version of winpkt.com is
  46. provided which fixes a bug with large packets not being received.
  47.  
  48. C) Special WinSOCK notes:
  49.  
  50. WT_WSK is Windows Sockets 1.1 compliant.  If you use FTP Software
  51. PC/TCP, you *must* use the latest version of their Winsock 1.1
  52. DLL.  This is available via anonymous FTP to VAX.FTP.COM
  53.  
  54. If you use SuperTCP, you must also obtain the latest version of
  55. their WinSOCK.DLL which is available from BBS.FRONTIERTECH.COM,
  56. once you have established an account on that system.

  58. You can also try the Trumpet Winsock which is distributed from
  59.  
  60.    ftp.utas.edu.au:/pc/trumpet/winsock/*

  62. D) I ran into a bug, what should I do?
  63.  
  64. Send all bug reports to "peter@psychnet.psychol.utas.edu.au".  Please
  65. report the exact circumstance of the bug.  For the WinSock version,
  66. include information on which vendors stack and WinSock.DLL you are
  67. using.
  68.  
  69. E) Common problems and their solutions:
  70.  
  71. 1.  A common problem is that batching of the XHDR commands doesn't
  72. work with some NNTP servers.  Symptom is that wintrump hangs when
  73. scanning the newsgroup.  Fix is to add the command line
  74. option -nobatch.
  75.  
  76. 2.  When running under Netware, wintrump will attempt to use the
  77. maildir and the setup parameters will be read-only.  This is a
  78. security feature and can be disabled by the use of the -disable_nw
  79. command line option.  Wintrump then reverts to a stand-alone setup.
  80.  
  81. 3. MTU packets of 1500 bytes not receivable with standard winpkt.
  82. Fix is to use the version distributed with wintrump.
  83.  
  84. 4. XHDR is not implemented on some news servers.  Symptom is that
  85. wintrump gives an error "500 Command not implemented"
  86. or something similar.  Fix is to get the NNTP server fixed - it will
  87. help other news readers to function more efficiently.

  90. F) Problems with WT_PKT.EXE
  91.  
  92. Wt_pkt may or may not work with your windows configuration.  To aid in
  93. debugging, if you have a problem, please send news.prm, news.ini and
  94. a debug listing from wintrump if possible to Peter Tattam.

  98. Debug listings can be generated in the following manner.  Add the
  99. following options to the command line.
  100.  
  101.     -debug=eairut -dbfile=test.dbg
  102.  
  103. the debug flags are     e   - ethernet headers
  104.                         a   - ARP packets
  105.                         i   - IP packets
  106.                         r   - RARP packets
  107.                         u   - UDP packets
  108.                         t   - TCP packets
  109.  
  110. the option -dbfile=... may be left out, in which case a debug
  111. listing will appear in a separate window.
  112.  
  113. Also, if one fails to get anything from that, the -dbfile can be
  114. set to the AUX, COM1, LPT1.DOS  etc.
  115.  
  116. G) Anything else?
  117.  
  118. ftp.utas.edu.au is at Hobart in Tasmania, Australia and only has a slow link
  119. to the outside world.  Please try to FTP files outside of our normal hours.
  120. (8.00 am-6.00pm), our time zone is EAST (10 hours ahead of GMT)
